is image consultancy a career for you?
If you are considering a career in image consultancy, then before you go any further you should ask yourself the following questions and consider the comments below:
1) Am I self-motivated and a self-starter? 2) Am I self-disciplined?
3) Do I enjoy working with people? 4) Am I good at communicating with others?
5) Am I a reasonably confident person? 6) Do I have an interest in helping others with their image?
7) Am I able to look beyond my own personal image and ignore my
personal preferences to help improve the image of others?
- You will also need to consider a venue to use as your studio.
For the vast majority of image consultants, this will be a spare
room in their house. You may choose a beauty salon or
hairdressers or decide to rent space elsewhere.
- Image consultancy provides more flexibility than almost any other career
because:
a) Most consultants start on a part-time basis.
b) The job can be fitted around other personal commitments such as family and holidays.
c) You are your own boss and decide what hours you want to work.
- For most image consultants, your hourly rate of earnings will
be considerably higher than your previous salaried employment.
- Professional qualifications are not required, but an ability
and willingness to learn are.
- Successful image consultants are motivated, confident and good communicators.
